How Educational Research Conferences Help Improve Standards Globally

By Anita Ortega

Nobody will deny the fact that the success of a community or country is directly related to the quality of the education that it offers. If the standards are low, the teachers and instructors demotivated, the learning material difficult to obtain and the facilities in poor condition then it is not possible to offer an education that will ensure that the community grows and prospers. These issues, together with potential solutions, are discussed during regular educational research conferences.

Education systems in many communities face grave challenges. In developed countries, technology is increasingly used to raise the standard of teaching, but poor communities are falling further and further behind, simply because they do not even have the most basic teaching aids, not to mention technologically advanced equipment such as computers and access to the internet. This means that the gap between wealthy communities and poor ones are widening.

It is not only technological and logistical issues that make it very difficult for poor communities to offer education of a high standard. Many learners hail from dysfunctional families. Many others go hungry and disease plays a very large role in keeping learners away from schools. Before anything else can be done therefore, the many social issues need to be addressed and they need to be part of a larger strategy that will hopefully address the problem.

Ongoing study into to education system is not only focused upon narrowing the gap between rich and poor, however. It is necessary to initiate studies to keep abreast of the needs of society and industry. This is the only way in which to ensure that the education system remains relevant to the needs of the society. New technology and advances made in various fields demand new skills.

Studies focusing on education systems also place a high priority on delivery media. Technological advances have opened many doors for educators. The internet, for example, allows teachers to communicate with their students in new ways and it is even possible to teach remotely without sacrificing continuous interaction between students and the teacher. Studies therefore focus on how to make education more effective and economical.

Regular conventions that allow educators to share experiences can be extremely helpful in making sure that the latest techniques and methods are implemented as quickly and as widely as possible. Research results are shared at such forums and discussion groups can help educators to improve the quality of education within their communities without learning costly lessons already learned by other experts.

Conventions also serve an important role in allowing educators to interact with experts from other disciplines. Social issues that manifest in the classroom, for example, can be brought to the attention of agencies and organizations that deal with those social issues. Education cannot stand apart from any other factor that has an influence on the community as a whole.

The ability to offer a decent education to everybody is most certainly one of the cornerstones of successful communities and countries. This is often easier said than done and many teachers and instructors must perform their work in difficult circumstances. At least, by sharing their experiences and ideas with each other they are able to do their best to help students do the best they can.
